In Subaru livery too!

But is it a Saabaru with a Subaru front or a Subaru with a Saabaru rear?

Yes.

It’s more of a Subaraab than a Saabaru.

I love Subaraab pie.

This man is correct. Although like a normal WRX wagon front end swap, you need everything... fenders, even the hood. Can’t just swap bumpers.
Mad dedication to the rally lyfe.

That or it was in an accident and needed those parts anyway.

Pretty sure that’s just a WRX from the upside-down Alfa Romeo grille era.

If I could find the guy, I’d ask. Unfortunately, he could have just been passing through.

Considering it is World Rally Blue which was not available on the Saabs I would say he took a Hawkeye wagon and added the Saab tail lights with a Bugeye bumper unless it has been resprayed.

I'm lost... How can you tell if it's a Saaburu from that picture? Looks like a WRX to me.

Yeah, that’s the joke. Saab rebadged the Impreza as the 9-2X in 2004 and 2005.

Saab rebadged the 2004 & 2005 Impreza as the 9-2X, thus the joke.

I know the history behind the 9-2x I was just pointing out that based on the color of the car it most likely is a Subaru.

It’s a joke.
Saab rebadged the Impreza for that year and they share the same look from the front.

So many people seem to think I was referring to a Subaru with a front-end swap.....

They are obviously not recognizing that the front end is a subaru.

I am struggling to understand the joke. I know people called the SAAB 9-2x a Saabaru because it was a rebadged Subaru, but why is the photo of a Subaru with Subaru rally livery with a caption of Saaburu a joke?

Don’t strain yourself. Perhaps it should have been titled Subaraab.

Yeah , pretty sure that no amount of straining would make this an actual joke.

I know what the 9-2x is, I’m just puzzled as to what makes this a joke. “Oh look at this WRX I’m calling a 9-2x” is the gist of it?

Sheesh, who knew this could be so difficult? Many of the Subaru guys I’ve met call that one a Saaburu even though they usually call the Saab version the Saaburu.
Suppose I’m easily amused.

Since I’m not a Subaru guy I’ve never heard the upside-down Alfa Romeo one jokingly called a Saabaru before.

I laughed out loud right there. Yours is probably the more likely explanation.
